610 Cole Place, Trousdale Estates… in Beverly Hills
Driving way up Loma Vista Road in Trousdale Estates you come to the crest of the hill up near Mulholland Drive and it’s here you will find the cul-de-sac called Cole Place. An unassuming little name for one of the most spectacular streets. My partner, Judy Oroshnik and I couldn’t believe the views from here… so much of the ocean was visible – not just a little sliver, but a huge swath. This 4 bedroom and 4 bathroom home has approximately 4400 square feet of interior space and sits on a lot just under a half-acre.
Built in 1967, you would never know it because this home is absolutely perfect. Not a hair out-of-place, as they say. I’m not sure what it looked like before it was renovated, but now it’s a masterpiece. Walking to the front door, you cross a bridge over a water feature. As you enter the home it’s almost as if you’re standing under a roof only – because the walls are almost completely glass. It’s incredible. As my former employer, Benny Medina, used to say: It’s rarefied air up here.
The floors are all true to the mid-century genre and are Terrazzo. It’s wonderful to just glide from room to room on them. The living room is sunken, another throwback feature, but it really works and adds coziness to the stark interiors. One of the most striking characteristics from a design standpoint is the absolute consistency of surfaces. Although there is a varied use of materials, the homes’ designer was restrained and kept the choices to a minimum. For instance, all the bathrooms have the same (or very similar tile)… all the cabinetry is using the same veneer. This makes for a tranquil environment. How often I’ve seen homes with a different look in each room – which can be jarring. Not here.
Needless to say, this is a house built for entertaining. Whether in the media room with its gigantic t.v. screen, at the pool and hot tub with the city stretched out before you and the ocean sparkling on the horizon, or finishing dinner in the dining room and then lounging by the fireplace in the living room – this is a place that you’d love to share with the people in your life. It’s wonderful.
